PMI Manufacturing index

Rule of thumb

The PMI may be a good indicator of the future monetary policy of the Czech National Bank

PMI Manufacturing tracks the changes  to the economic conditions in the Czech industrial sector. The survey is based on questionnaires filled in by purchasing executives from manufacturing companies, and reflects the dynamics of the new orders within the sector. The questionnaires are prepared by Markit Economics, a company specialised in compiling business surveys and economic indices.

The PMI index is published in points from its formula results, that publications above 50 points signal the increasingly positive climate, whereas readings below 50 reflect worsening economic conditions.

The interpretation of the data on the financial markets is straightforward, as better than expected data and its positive dynamics provide fundamental support to the Czech based assets and the currency. Whereas a worsening economic climate may incline the market participants to sell the Czech koruna

Periodicity of publication

Depending on the sector, the PMI is published between the first day of the next month and the third day of the next month of the reference month . By the end of the following month of the reference period, broad PMI data is released.
