Bill Williams has promoted an approach to trading based on human psychology rather than strictly using fundamental or technical analysis. According to his opinion, traditional methods cannot guarantee reliable results, as the model of the market structure they propose does not fit the non-linear dynamics of the real market.
Nevertheless, Mr Williams has contributed to the development of technical analysis with an array of tools based on his philosophical reflections on what the financial market really is.
Surprisingly enough, the tools are based on modified components of technical analysis, such as moving averages and their histograms, but they come in an entirely new outfit – as is the case with Alligator’s indicator, where the financial market dynamics is reflected in rather a picturesque metaphor. It is up to each individual trader to decide on the actual value of such an approach.
Tools proposed by Bill Williams include:
- Accelerator Oscillator (AC) – predicting signals of Awesome oscillator.
- Alligator Oscillator – capturing market dynamics with the usage of three moving averages.
- Awesome Oscillator – histogram of two moving averages combined.
- Gator Oscillator – auxiliary instrument to the Alligator.
